In celebration of seven decades of service to the LGBTQ+ community, the ONE Institute presents Circa, the first and only LGBTQ+ histories festival in the United States.
Kicking off at the start of LGBTQ+ History Month, the month-long, LA County-wide programming series will showcase the trailblazing histories and vibrant cultural contributions of LGBTQ+ communities through the lens of present-day challenges and triumphs.
Spanning the arts, humanities, politics, and culture, Circa will feature queer, trans, and allied thinkers and doers leading the movement for LGBTQ+ liberation.
The Circa Festival will feature over 70 arts, culture, and education programs held at over a dozen venue partner locations across L.A. County and in collaboration with dozens of artists, activists, and educators.
Circa venue partner locations include the Los Angeles LGBT Center, USC, UCLA, William Grant Still Arts Center in South LA, LACMA in Central LA, LA City College in East LA, Junior High LA Gallery in the Valley, David Zwirner Gallery in Hollywood, the City of West Hollywood (various venues), Mi Centro in Boyle Heights, among many others.
Participants in the official Circa Festival programming lineup include: The Williams Institute, City of Los Angeles Public Library, Getty Research Institute, Celebration Theatre, Gay Freedom Band, ACLU of Southern California, Charachchi (Queer Armenians of the Diaspora), Lambda Literary, San Gabriel Valley LGBT Center, USC Writing Program, Prison Education Project, The Lavender Effect, California LGBT Arts Alliance, Museum of Neon Art, Feminist Center for Creative Work, Rock Papers Scissors Collective, Trans Latin@ Coalition, to name a few.
Dozens of artists, educators, and activists will present lectures, panel conversations, multidisciplinary programs, screenings, workshops, readings, and exhibitions throughout the month-long Festival.
