WestJet is increasing its seat capacity next summer by 10%, driven by 11 new routes and increases on other operations.
Big summer expansion
Earlier today, WestJet announced that it is expanding its network next summer. This includes adding five new destinations, two in Canada and another three in the United States (US). The airline will launch 11 new routes next summer with the new destinations.

According to John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of WestJet, the airline will operate more than 3,000 weekly flights in the summer of 2025. The airline’s biggest growth will come in Ottawa, where capacity is set to increase by 36% over summer 2024. Although Ottawa has the most significant expansion, none of the new routes are from there.

Ten Canadian airports will see double-digit expansion next year:
Calgary
Edmonton
Kelowna
Montreal
Ottawa
Regina
Saskatoon
Vancouver
Victoria
Winnipeg
Transborder
In the United States, WestJet is adding three new pins to its route network, spread throughout the country. Two of the new routes will be served from Calgary, while the third will be served from Edmonton. The first of the three routes to be launched will be from Edmonton to Salt Lake City on May 15.

Service to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) will be operated five times weekly through October 24. On June 9, WestJet will begin connecting Calgary to Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) thrice weekly. Like service to SLC, flights to RDU will only operate seasonally.
Finally, service to Anchorage will launch in late June. WestJet plans to serve the biggest city in Alaska twice weekly through September 7.
In addition to the new destinations, WestJet is adding four new routes to its network:
Calgary – Minneapolis
Edmonton – Chicago
Vancouver – Boston
Vancouver – Tampa
Operations to the US will increase by 11% this summer and will amount to nearly 33% of WestJet’s total operations. The Canadian carrier will serve 29 airports in the US with more than 900 weekly flights.

Long-haul growth
In Europe, WestJet is expanding capacity on several routes and adding one route. From St. John’s, WestJet plans to launch flights to Paris on May 18. The new route will operate once weekly from May 18 to October 19.

Flights to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) from St. John’s will increase in frequency to four weekly services. Passengers will be able to fly to London from April 28 to October 25. A third route to Europe will be available from St. John’s to Dublin from May 22 to October 23.
