Muppet Labs seems to have been permanently… sucked up.
Just when we thought it was safe, Disney has announced the end of Muppet*Vision 3-D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The attraction will close as the company announces that Grand Ave will be the new home for Monstropolis, the new Monsters Inc Land. Originally anticipated to be located in the Animation Courtyard, this will mean closing a beloved attraction. Is it time? Or, is this just a cheap way to make a new land? The panel shares our feelings. As part of the same announcement,
Disney will be making a change on the other side of the studios, flipping the Aerosmith theming of the coaster and replacing it with more Muppets IP. It will become the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Muppets Mayhem. Are we excited about this? Is this a cheap way to replace Aerosmith, a way to make up the loss of Muppet*Vision, or both?
Muppet announcements are just another in a slew of attractions that are closing to make room for new experiences. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, has said that Disney theme parks are not a museum, and that the future of the parks is to focus on intellectual property (IP) rather than original storytelling. With the closing of Muppet*Vision, is anything untouchable? What will you miss? We have our own lists.
In some good news, Soarin’ Around the World at EPCOT has been updated! The attraction has famously been panned for the Effiel Tower, which seems to be “bent” from most vantage points, and the old EPCOT is visible instead of the new updates. Disney has quietly updated this film, and we’re excited for the upgrades!
On November 19, Disney was in New York to christen the Disney Treasure! The event, which included “one-of-a-kind moments” and special appearances, served as the “first official look at the ship.” We’ll talking about all the news and previews, including the Figment references, the new lounges and the massive drone show!
Even though it’s the most expensive offering for line skipping, the Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane Premier Pass has sold out for five days of Thanksgiving week so far. Announced last month, the Premier Pass is now available to guests from all Disney Resorts. Who is paying this much for faster access to attractions?
We’ve got so much else to cover, including the latest Annual Passholder perks, the new DVC lounge announcements for Magic Kingdom, new food at Oga’s Cantina, more previews of the Festival of the Arts and much, much more!
