North Carolina basketball under Hubert Davis: Insiders share transfer portal news, top 2025 recruits, roster

Few programs in professional or collegiate sports have the brand recognition of North Carolina basketball. No school has more Final Four appearances (21) all-time than North Carolina and only UCLA (11) and Kentucky (eight) have more national titles than North Carolina’s six. With that, the Tar Heels will be a dream school for millions of young basketball players, so whether they are fresh out of high school or entering the college basketball transfer portal, history gives the North Carolina basketball roster an advantage in recruitment.
North Carolina has a top-10 Class of 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports, for the second straight year. The Tar Heels are coming off their fourth straight 20-win season, going 23-9 before losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, so who should North Carolina basketball fans expect the Tar Heels to target? North Carolina basketball roster news
For the second straight year, North Carolina has a top-10 ranked incoming freshman joining the program next year. Caleb Wilson, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Atlanta, is the No. 9 overall recruit by 247Sports and is one of three Class of 2025 Tar Heels signees. He’ll be joined by guards Isaiah Denis and Derek Dixon, who are both top 50 recruits with signed letters of intent with North Carolina.
It’s the first time since the Class of 2020 that the Tar Heels have three top-50 recruits joining in the same year as they look to be immediate contributors to send North Carolina to its record 22nd Final Four. Although he wasn’t one of the three top 50 recruits, the Class of 2020 signees included RJ Davis, who graduated as the program’s second all-time leading scorer this year. So you never know who may emerge from the recruitment trails as the true top talent, and North Carolina may not be finished adding to its program yet.
