LSU HC Announces Sad Garrett Nussmeier Injury Update

Garrett Nussmeier has been battling through pain all season. And LSU’s interim head coach, Frank Wilson, finally talked about how much the Tigers’ starting quarterback has been dealing with. Nussmeier sat out LSU’s 23-22 win over Arkansas last weekend after reaggravating an abdominal injury he first suffered against Texas A&M back in October.
The senior signal-caller wasn’t even dressed out for the Arkansas game. Now, with Western Kentucky coming up this week, there’s real uncertainty about whether Nussmeier will be back on the field or if LSU will have to lean on backup Michael Van Buren Jr. again.
In his Monday PC, Frank Wilson was asked whether Garrett Nussmeier was playing through an injury throughout the 2025 season. ‘To say he played courageously throughout the season is an understatement… He pushed through an awful lot, and I commend Garrett for that,” Wilson said.
Wilson’s praise is not all hyperbole. Nussmeier took a massive hit against the Aggies that left him writhing in pain. However, after reaggravating the injury “in the back end of this week” during practice, Wilson admitted he’s deferring to the doctors and is unsure if Nussmeier will play against Western Kentucky.
