It’s been a slow offseason for the New York Yankees to this point, but there’s plenty of time left to upgrade the roster in the midst of an American League East arms race.
As the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox have been busy adding talent, the Yankees have only brought back free agents from their own major league roster. And all three of those division rivals have added at least one exciting new starting pitcher.
Perhaps the Yankees are getting ready to respond. On Sunday, a report surfaced that New York was targeting an exciting starter on the trade market.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Yankees were engaged in discussions with the Miami Marlins as of Sunday about a potential deal for right-hander Edward Cabrera, who had his best season yet last year and has long had impressive raw stuff.
