While Brittney Griner adjusts to the brutalities of a Russian penal colony, the negotiations between the US and Russia are ongoing. Many reports have revealed the horrible conditions that Brittney Griner might be facing inside the penal colony. Recently, an expert from a reputed public relations firm reckoned that Brittney Griner might be experiencing one of the most horrific sides of Russia inside a penal colony.

Brittney Griner is currently being housed in the IK-2 penal colony, one of the harshest colonies in Mordovia. She is likely being kept in crowded barracks along with 80-100 other inmates. Recently, Jonathan Franks, the president of Lucid Strategies revealed some horrific details of the conditions Griner is possibly facing inside the IK-2 penal colony.

Franks’ firm played a crucial role in the release of former US marine Trevor Reed, who spent nearly three years in a penal colony. Reed came home earlier this year as a part of a prisoner swap deal.

Jonathan Franks recently laid out the atrocities Brittney Griner might be dealing with inside the IK-2 facility. Franks suggested that existence inside the penal colonies is extremely difficult due to forced labor and bad food.
Moreover, he stated that BG could be enduring intensive labor up to 16 hours a day, possibly working in a charcoal or soap factory. Franks revealed that inmates of penal colonies have to eat whatever comes for them in a communal dining room.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Franks said, “These facilities were built to break people. They were designed to be brutal and oppressive.”
Franks claimed that the infamous prison colonies and their extreme conditions were built to break the spirits of inmates. Thus, brutality and oppression are quite common in such far-off facilities in Russia. Franks indicated that the prison experience in Russia would affect Brittney Griner’s mental health during the ‘fight of her life’.

Jonathan Franks further shared that the food inside the penal colonies was so rotten that even the cats don’t prefer to eat it. Hence, Franks told that Griner is most probably not getting proper food inside the IK-2 colony. Moreover, Franks warned that Griner is likely to face uncomfortable, gross, and extremely cold conditions in a country that does not follow the ‘customer-service regime mentality’.
BG is battling the most difficult times in her life far away from her loved ones. The 2014 WNBA champ was sentenced to nine years in prison under drug possession charges. She was moved to a penal colony last month.

Thus, her only hope now is a prisoner exchange between the two countries. Hopefully, the White House will work out the prisoner swap deal with the Kremlin and BG will return home soon.
