Google has launched ‘Year in Search’ results for 2022. As most of you know, Google does this every year to give us some insight into what people were most interested in throughout the year.
We are going to take a look at the global results, of course. You can, however, be more regional, if you want. You can browse the results based on the country where you live, or any other country out there, really.
Google shares ‘Year in Search’ results for 2022, Wordle is at the very top
‘Wordle’ was the top trending search globally. That may surprise some of you, but Wordle was immensely popular for quite some time. Both Ukraine and Queen Elizabeth were also quite popular search terms.

When it comes to news, Ukraine was number one. That search term is followed by Queen Elizabeth passing, Election results, Powerball numbers, and Monkeypox.
If you’re wondering what the most searched-for people were, well, that’s not hard to guess. Johnny Depp takes the top spot, and is followed by Will Smith, Amber Heard, Vladimir Putin, and Chris Rock. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship drama was well-documented, as was Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars. Vladimir Putin is quite high due to the war in Ukraine which Russia started earlier this year.
Johnny Depp was the most searched-for actor
Johnny Depp was also the most searched-for actor, while Novak Djokovic was the most search-for athlete. He’s followed by Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Manti Te’o, and Shaun White.

Believe it or not, Thor: Love and Thunder was the most searched-for movie. It is followed by Black Adam, Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman, and Encanto. Euphoria was the most searched-for TV show, followed by House of the Dragon, Moon Knight, The Watcher, and Inventing Anna.
There are a number of additional categories that you can check out via Google Trends, if you’re interested. If you’d like to check your local results, or any other country out there, tap on the ‘Global’ link in the ‘See what was trending in 2022 – Global’ heading, and Google will show you a drop-down menu with options.
