Anita Pointer, who won Grammys and churned out hits with The Pointer Sisters, has died, her family announced.
A cause of death wasn’t released for the singer-songwriter, who was 74.

“She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long,” the family said in a statement Sunday.
Pointer and sisters Ruth, Bonnie and June were known for songs such as “I’m So Excited,” “Fire” and “Slow Hand,” each of which were Top 10 singles in the U.S.

The Pointer Sisters won three Grammys. Their first came in 1975 for the song “Fairytale,” which Anita co-wrote and sang lead vocals on.

Anita’s death on Saturday was preceded by June’s in 2006 and Bonnie’s in 2020. Anita’s daughter, Jada, died in 2003.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace,” her family said.
The Pointer Sisters received 10 Grammy nominations overall, with their other wins coming for “Jump (For My Love)” and “Automatic.” The siblings were the first Black group to perform at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.
The sisters received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994 and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005.
