The TV series adaptation of the fan-favorite video game, The Last of Us, is just around the corner. It will start airing on HBO and HBO Max soon this month. Moreover, it will retell the events from the 2013 action-adventure game from Naughty Dog.
There is a lot of hype among the fans for this upcoming adaptation. But as the release date is nearing, some new facts about the show are getting revealed. The creator of this game Neil Druckmann is also the co-creator of HBO’s live-action adaptation. He recently disclosed that he got to explore his creation more than his game itself.

Druckmann shared that the original game was from Joel’s perspective and later transitions to Ellie’s. But adapting it into a TV series has allowed him and the show’s co-creator Craig Mazin to explore those limitations that the game imposed on the plot.
Neil Druckmann reveals The Last of Us TV series is greyer than the game itself!
Mr. Druckmann shared that he was very excited about this adaptation, as the game presented characters in black and white shades. In the PlayStation title, Joel and Ellie are the good guys, while the others fighting them were basically evil. He shared that there was a significant limitation on the story because of the original format.

Now, the HBO adaptation will present the same story, but in a much greyer tone as it will also focus on the other side and their perspective. Druckmann shared in an interview with ScreenRant that “I love the idea that there aren’t just good guys and bad guys. Everybody’s trying to survive; everybody trying to live life to the fullest way they can.”
“But often, the goals are competing with each other,” the game’s creator further explained. “And that’s where the interesting things happen, and the different philosophies of how to survive or do the ends justify the means, speak to what the story is really about in new ways than we did in the game.”
