Seven airports from last year’s top 10 are contenders again this year.
USA Today has selected 20 major airports and hubs across the United States for readers around the country to vote for their favorite large airport and create a top 10 list for 2024. The above 20 airports have been nominated because of the various amenities and facilities they offer the passengers passing through, but also taken into consideration is the domestic and international network connectivity offered by the airport.
The readers can vote once a day for their favorite large airport until the voting ends on September 23rd. The top 10 airports and the winning airport will be announced next month on October 2nd.
Last year’s winner
Looking back at the top 10 large airports for 2023, Indianapolis International Airport (IND), in Indiana, takes the top spot as voted by the readers. According to USA Today, it was chosen because of the wide range of destinations the airport is connected to, along with various facilities available for passengers, especially the various bars and restaurants that passengers can enjoy before their flight.
Rather interestingly, despite winning last year, the airport was not nominated in the top 20 list for this year.

The top 10 airports last year were as follows (ascending order):
No. Airport Code No. Airport Code No. Airport Code 1. Indianapolis International Airport IND 2. Tampa International Airport TPA 3. Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport MSY 4. Salt Lake City International Airport SLC 5. Nashville International Airport BNA 6. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ATL 7. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport DFW 8. Repeating contenders this year
Looking at last year’s top 10, seven of these have been nominated again this year in the top 20. Considering airports such as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) are major hubs and some of the busiest in the world, these airports would always be up for consideration due to the sheer size of operations and global connectivity offered.
This year, the top 10 could see new airports, such as Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which has seen several new service announcements this year and is thereby experiencing an increase in connectivity. The airport is also known as the ‘Friendliest Airport’ in the country.
