Dragon Ball fans who are waiting for any franchise news that isn’t about video games will finally get their wish fulfilled by Shenron. A big event called Genkidamatsuri will take place on Jan. 25, 2026, where all the latest Dragon Ball content will be presented.
Confirmed to appear at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, which is being held at the Makuhari Messe convention center outside of Tokyo, are a new Dragon Ball game, and two still-unspecified major projects.
Special guests will include Masako Nozawa, the iconic voice actor behind Goku, and Akio Iyoku, the president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo and the producer behind Dragon Ball Daima.
This event is meant to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball anime’s first airing, but it comes at a turbulent time for the franchise. While there are plenty of Dragon Ball products coming out each year, new creative content that fans are mostly waiting for, such as the continuation of the Dragon Ball Super manga and anime, seems to be stuck in limbo. Rumors blame a rights dispute between Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama’s estate, publisher Shueisha, and Iyoku, but the only hard, undisputable truth is that the death of Toriyama left a void that the franchise is still struggling to come to terms with.
Hopefully, Genkidamatsuri will be a true Dragon Ball fest (matsuri means festival in Japanese, and Genkidama is the original name of Goku’s iconic Spirit Bomb attack) that will celebrate the most iconic and influential manga and anime in the past four decades, and also deliver some good news for fans.
