The Washington Commanders not only lost to the Seattle Seahawks in their Week 9 game on Sunday, but they also suffered a potentially season-altering blow with the injury to star quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels had to leave the field midway through the fourth quarter after he injured his elbow. Following a tackle from linebacker Drake Thomas, Daniels hit the ground, with his left arm bending awkwardly at the elbow as he tried to brace fall.
Slow-motion video of the play highlighted how serious Daniels’ injury was, and fans naturally expressed their concern about his health. Some even fear that it could be a season-ending injury.
In his postgame press conference, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn addressed Daniels’ injury. He confirmed that the 24-year-old sustained a left elbow injury, but he didn’t reveal the severity of the issue.
“He does have a left elbow injury. I’ll update you on more when I know more,” Quinn said, per Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan.
The Commanders have yet to release an official update on Daniels’ condition.
For what it’s worth, several viewers also blamed Quinn for what happened to Daniels, pointing out that he should have taken the QB off the field. After all, when the one-time Pro Bowler got injured, Washington was trailing Seattle 38-7.
Quinn addressed the questions about his decision to keep Daniels in the game while talking to reporters, noting that there wasn’t any discussion about pulling him out. However, he did admit that he should have taken him out in “hindsight,” per JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports.
More updates about Daniels’ injury should come in the next few days, especially after he undergoes further testing. For now, the Commanders faithful can only wait and hope for the best.
