Dan Orlovsky Compares Joe Burrow to Former NFL Star After Injury News

Despite being 2-0 to start the season, head coach Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals received some devastating news on Monday morning.
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was hurt in the first half of the 31-27 win at home over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He was replaced by Jake Browning, and Burrow was unable to return.
Fans left Paycor Stadium hoping for the best, but the next morning found out the worst.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, “Bengals QB Joe Burrow will need toe surgery that will sideline him a minimum of three months.”
Once the news was announced, Dan Ovlovsky, former NFL quarterback and now ESPN analyst, had an interesting comparison.
“Just absolutely brutal. Feels like Andrew Luck all over again,” Orlovsky posted on X.
Burrow, the former Ohio State Buckeyes and LSU Tigers star, has already won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year twice in his career. Burrow was drafted first overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by Cincinnati. This will be the third major injury for the signal-caller, following a wrist injury in mid-November 2023 and a torn ACL, PCL and MCL in his knee that ended his rookie season prematurely.
Burrow played all 17 games in 2024 and finished 82 yards shy of 5,000 via the passing game. He also threw for 43 passing touchdowns to nine interceptions, but the Bengals were unable to reach the postseason.
Before his injury, Burrow was 21-of-36 in the passing game for 189 yards and two touchdowns this season.
The comparison to Andrew Luck is one the fans in Cincinnati hope never comes true. Luck was the top overall pick in 2012 by the Indianapolis Colts. He was also a NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2018. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was the NFL passing leader in 2014.
The biggest news on Luck was his abrupt retirement following seven seasons in the NFL, playing just 86 games. During those games, he won 53 games in the regular season and played an additional eight in the postseason, winning four of them.
Luck finished his career with 23,671 passing yards, 171 passing touchdowns and 83 interceptions. Since then, he went on to be an assistant coach at Palo Alto High School in California and is now the general manager of Stanford Cardinal football.
