Dodgers React to Freddie Freeman News Before World Series Against Blue Jays

The Los Angeles Dodgers have earned another trip to the World Series, advancing to baseball’s biggest stage for the fifth time in the last nine seasons. With a group featuring the league’s brightest stars, first baseman Freddie Freeman will get a chance to continue building his legacy.
The 36-year-old left-handed slugger has continued to produce deep into his career, owning a .295 batting average, .367 on-base percentage, .869 OPS, 24 home runs and 90 RBIs across 147 games operating in the middle of Los Angeles’ batting order. Freeman solidified his place in Dodgers franchise history last year, winning World Series MVP when Los Angeles took down the New York Yankees in five games.
As Freeman and the Dodgers prepare for a trip to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays on Friday, the first baseman received an exciting nomination. Louisville Slugger announced the finalists for the Silver Slugger Award for the National League, and Freeman was included along with three of his teammates: two-way standout Shohei Ohtani, third baseman Max Muncy and catcher Will Smith. Los Angeles congratulated all four players on X. “Congratulations to our 2025 NL Silver Slugger Award finalists!” the team wrote.
The Silver Slugger is awarded annually to the top offensive performers at each position. Freeman was named one of three National League finalists at first base, joining Pete Alonso of the New York Mets and Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves. Managers and coaches from each NL team vote based on a blend of offensive statistics and personal assessment. Metrics such as OPS, OPS+, home runs, RBIs, batting average, total bases and runs are weighed alongside each voter’s impression of a player’s overall value at the plate.
Freeman has long been recognized for his efforts in the batter’s box. He has already won an NL MVP Award, a Gold Glove Award and nine All-Star selections between his stints with the Braves and Dodgers. Freeman’s focus will remain on helping Los Angeles secure back-to-back World Series titles, a feat that has not been accomplished since the Yankees won three championships in a row from 1998–2000.
