The cheekiest series on TV returns with 8 new episodes, streaming every Friday on Prime Video. Here’s everything you need to know before getting started.
Believe us when they tell you that the worst never ends. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. Everything or almost everything seemed to have fallen into place the last time The Boys entertained the audience of Prime Video. Patriot and Vought had received a sound lesson, while Butcher and his had managed to save Ryan and free themselves from any charges against them. With some losses, however. Stormfront had been nearly burned to ashes, while Becca had been killed in the fight. Now, in thehighly anticipated third season – streaming from today June 3 with the first three episodes, then a new appointment every Friday until July 8 – there is a semblance of normality in the lives of our beloved anti-heroes. Each, in his own way, has started again somewhere, with not always optimal results. And it is precisely this increasingly evident precariousness that puts the two opposite realities – the Super and the Boys – back in friction.

The Boys 3: What awaits us in the new season
Let’s start by clearing the field of all fear. If one of the things you love most about this series is its total madness, once again you will not be disappointed: from the very first minutes, the third season will take you to places that you will hardly be able to imagine; luckily for you, obviously. From this point of view, The Boys returns more violent, unscrupulous and splatter before. We thought it wasn’t possible, but that’s it. The rest moves on opposing planes. On the one hand we have Hughie Campbell (played by Jack Quaid), with a tie and a fully satisfying love life. Away from former comrades, Hughie is now in the service of anti-Vought MP Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), without knowing – just for a while – that she is a Super and is secretly using her powers to assassinate those who speak out publicly against the company. On the other hand, after a year, Patriot (Antony Starr) still tries not to make it appear that he has taken the blow, while a progressive and dangerous loss of control is evident (not that he has ever had much of it) and, much worse for him, of leadership. To the point that he is now the most worrying threat.

“There’s something wrong with Patriot. Something broken. He’s completely drunk his brain,” says Starlight (Erin Moriarty) in the official season trailer. While he shows the public his true self, others have reason to be concerned, and it is with these reasons that Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) introduces himself to Billy Butcher, to offer him a couple of advantages in his never-ending war against the Patriot. Information about Toy Soldier, a former Vought celebrity played by the new addition to the cast Jensen Ackles. And a new discovery, a serum capable of conferring superpowers for 24 hours. Despite the skepticism and concerns of him, Butcher, who feels a bit like he’s kept on a leash, decides to hire him, gaining laser sight and super strength. But fighting on equal terms with the Supers poses some dilemma: “What happens when, to defeat the monster, you become like him?”, Teased his interpreter Karl Urban.
Toy Soldier: A faded star, or maybe not
Toy soldier is definitely the big draw of season 3’s The Boys. For the part, the co-creator and showrunner Eric Kripke he wanted a close friend from the days he was driving Supernatural. “The interesting thing about Soldatino as an antagonist is that he represents the American image of the macho“, explained Kripke.” The fact that the figures used to create fear and panic and to manipulate and control the population are other Americans. “He led Vought’s first Super team, the Payback, During the Second World War. They were the biggest stars in the world, but over time they have been overshadowed by the Seven and now they sail on sight trying to stay in the spotlight. The group included Crimson Countess (Laurie Holden, The Walking Dead) and other characters created specifically for the series, other than those featured in the comic. But Soldatino is Vought’s first great masterpiece. An alpha male who, as opposed to Patriot, basically a copy of him, will start a fire “rather quickly”.
Ackles described his character as the bad copy of Captain America, “as if he gave up his heroism and was just a drunken, inappropriate uncle.” Plus, this super soldier exudes toxic masculinity, another theme Kripke has set out to address this season. For his part, the actor was ready for whatever season 3 had in store for him. Almost. There was a part in Soldatino’s narrative arc that he just didn’t like. TO Entertainment Weekly said after reading the script, she phoned Kripke and said, “‘As a father of three, son, husband and self-respecting human being, I can’t do that. I didn’t know where my limit was, but you found it ‘”. It is not clear what exactly the scene in question entailed. The showrunner limited himself to saying that he had laughed at his phone call, not because he found the situation amusing but because of the thought that he had perhaps finally pushed himself beyond the limits of TV.

And then there is Herogasm
This was just a seemingly small forfeit in a season that, as we’ve already said, does nothing to hold back. The trailer is indicative enough, but it does not take into account what will probably be remembered as one of the most absurd sequences ever seen on TV. We refer to Herogasm, a famous comic story arc in which the superheroes of the world come together to fight aliens. At least, so they say to the adoring public. Instead, they entertain each other during a week of promiscuity and other very strange things. The fit is not faithful, as we have already found out from Kripke and in other respects too, but the loyal comics and fans of the series can still expect a large number of nudity, mating and devilry that we are not authorized to anticipate, nor could we tell you.
Despite that, being on what Kripke described as “a hot, stuffy, sticky set” wasn’t all that intriguing after a while. “On the first day, it felt like you were really in a dream, surrounded by all these beautiful naked people. By the second day, they all looked like mole rats and the only thing you wanted was to leave.” Ackles added: “For our team it was like having a horrible experience.” Seriously, speaking of the relationship between the cast and crew, he said that ultimately “we trust the process that is this series. There’s a reason it’s so popular around the world, and that’s because we don’t. we hold back “.
