Manchester United fans will want their club to be one of the big buyers in the January market, given their intense needs in the middle of the park and the upside of legitimately competing for the top four if they can somehow land a big fish in that position.
The Red Devils are hoping for Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, or Elliot Anderson as a midfield signing – and ideally two of those players – but none of them are expected to move in January due to their importance to their current Premier League clubs.
But as Man United look into signing a new top midfielder, they also have to worry about losing their own players this January window, most namly one of their best current mids in Kobbie Mainoo, who somehow does not start due to Ruben Amorim’s stubborness.
In a recent report on his YouTube channel, elite transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Amorim made it perfectly clear to the Manchester United board room that he will not accept any player leaving the club this winter if a replacement cannot be signed.
That seems to point most specifically to Mainoo not leaving unless if Man United can sign a dream midfield replacement, but it means, in general, Ruben Amorim is making it clear that he wants to compete at the highest level right now and will not tolerate bleeding talent just to appease the board’s desire to make revenue. Fans should appreciate that.
