Indiana football adds North Texas to 2026 schedule

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football will play North Texas on Sept. 5, 2026, as part of next season’s non-conference schedule.
The matchup replaces a previously announced game against Colorado State.
Per a source familiar with the situation, Colorado State sought to exit the deal and agreed to pay IU’s athletic department $100,000. The amount was negotiated down from the $1.3 million in damages that was outlined in the contract the parties agreed to back in 2021.
Indiana’s non-conference schedule next season also includes games at Memorial Stadium against Howard (Sept. 12) and Western Kentucky (Sept. 19).
The Hoosiers’ non-conference schedule gained national attention over the summer after the school canceled a home-and-home series against Virginia. The program doesn’t have a Power Four-caliber non-conference opponent on their schedule until 2030.
Indiana’s athletic director Scott Dolson told The Herald-Times back in June that his team continues to analyze national trends and will reevaluate their future schedules based the future format of the College Football Playoff.
