COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley was named National Coach of the Year.
Staley has won the award in four of the last five seasons, according to the university.
She has coached the women’s basketball team for 15 seasons and led the team to NCAA victory twice.
Staley is credited for creating the women’s basketball program at Carolina and is recognized as one of the most powerful people in South Carolina sports.
She was named the National Coach of the year by The Athletic and ESPN.
South Carolina will play in the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Friday at 2 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday First Four game.
