First, thank you to The Times-Picayune for your updated article on Chris Rose.
Being a lifelong reader of your publication, it was heartbreaking to see him so traumatized by the horrors of Katrina.
My husband and I met Chris years later at an art event we attended. He was obviously still suffering and looking for solace in the bottle. At the time, he was no longer writing. We tried to encourage him to write again, as that seemed to be his emotional release. I was truly delighted to see the peace he finally found in his new life.
Now, to actually be able to read his words again, in his letter to the city, was exhilarating! He is such a talented essayist. No matter the subject, he can reach the heart of the matter with prose that is poignant and thought-provoking, yet humorous and sarcastic. His mastery of words is magical.
