The Dallas Mavericks have struggled badly with Anthony Davis sidelined with a calf injury. The 10-time All-Star has been out of commission for the Mavs’ last eight games. Over that stretch, Dallas has won just once. The Mavs are 3-10 entering Sunday’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Davis recently underwent more tests on his calf to assess the progress of his recovery. The results are in, and the Mavs took to social media on Sunday to announce a significant update. The five-time All-NBA big man still has no firm return date in place, but it appears that Davis is making good progress.
Injuries have been an issue for Davis ever since he joined the Mavs last season as part of the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis has played just 14 times for Dallas since being traded in February. The 6-foot-10 forward-center has made five appearances this season, averaging 20.8 points on 52.0% shooting, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in 29.8 minutes per contest.
Davis injured his calf on Oct. 29 in a game against the Indiana Pacers. He managed just seven minutes in that game before being forced to exit. It has now been nearly three weeks since Davis last saw action for the Mavs.
On Sunday, Dallas provided a crucial update on Davis’ road to recovery.
“Anthony Davis, who has missed the last eight games due to a left calf strain, was recently re-evaluated.
“The evaluation indicated that Davis is making good progress with his recovery. He will be re-assessed in 7-10 days and further updates will be appropriately provided,” Mavs PR posted on X.
The team has yet to reveal when they expect Davis to return. However, the fact that there is now a timetable seems to indicate that he is getting closer. The update also stated that he is “making good progress,” which further supports the notion that the 32-year-old should return sooner rather than later.
