Releasing a couple of months after Squid Game’s massive success on Netflix, All of Us Are Dead further confirmed what original Korean dramas could mean for the streaming platform. With lots of action and a compelling ensemble cast, the zombie K-drama charmed audiences globally and became one of Netflix’s most-watched non-English titles. Between the positive reviews and the viewership numbers, All of Us Are Dead season 2 seemed inevitable.
Unsurprisingly, All of Us Are Dead season 2 was officially announced in June 2022 with a video featuring the show’s lead actors. Apart from the fact that Cheong-san could still be alive given that star Yoon Chan-young was included, the announcement video did not indicate what All of Us Are Dead season 2’s story was going to be. Since then, little has been revealed about the upcoming season 2, and we still don’t know when All of Us Are Dead will return. Now, Netflix’s K-content lineup for 2025 makes things even more frustrating.

Netflix recently released its K-content slate for 2025, including a comprehensive list of every original K-drama coming to the platform this year. From highly-anticipated shows such as Squid Game season 3 to brand-new series featuring some of the most popular Korean actors right now, Netflix has an impressive lineup of Korean movies and TV shows for 2025. While there are plenty of K-dramas to be excited for this year, Netflix’s 2025 slate does not include All of Us Are Dead season 2. Therefore, it’s safe to say All of Us Are Dead will not return in 2025.

Following All of Us Are Dead’s renewal in June 2022, it remained to be seen when the horror K-drama was going to return. With streaming originals – K-dramas included – taking longer and longer to be produced, it seemed reasonable to assume that All of Us Are Dead season 2 would take two years or more. Initially, it appeared that All of Us Are Dead 2 was going to be filmed in 2024, which would mean a 2025 release. That would have been three years after All of Us Are Dead season 1 debuted.
While three years is a long time for a show to return, this would not be too different from what Sweet Home, Squid Game, and other streaming shows have gone through. However, it was later reported that production on All of Us Are Dead 2 had been pushed back to 2025, meaning the show would now likely be released in 2026. With the series potentially returning four years after the first season, the wait for All of Us Are Dead is now unlike anything we have seen from a Netflix K-drama.

All of Us Are Dead episode 12 ended on a cliffhanger that all but confirmed season 2 was going to happen. However, the show will now have to not only pay off all the teases from the first season but also recapture audiences’ interest. While All of Us Are Dead fans who have been waiting since January 2022 for season 2 will surely binge the show as soon as it comes back, the general public might not be as interested in the series right now after so much time has passed.
That said, a show taking too long to return doesn’t mean the new season cannot be successful. For example, Squid Game season 2 broke several records for Netflix and is currently their third most viewed non-English TV show of all time, even though season 1 came out in 2021. With a strong marketing campaign, All of Us Are Dead can recapture the success of season 2. Of course, it also depends on how good All of Us Are Dead season 2 will be compared to the first season.
