Over $110 Million: 5 US Airports That Received The Largest Infrastructure Grants

Wherever you are in the world, there is little hiding from the fact that commercial aviation is an expensive business. As such, government funding grants are an important way for countries to support their aviation infrastructure, in the hope that the improvements made will attract more passengers who can put that money back into the local economies of the cities, regions, and countries that are involved.
Recent years have seen investment on this front from the US, which announced its fourth round of funding towards the end of October 2024. Valued at a total of around $970 million, this money was shared between 125 airports across 46 different states, as well as Guam and Palau. Let’s take a look at five of the most notably large grants from the recent funding, whose value exceeds $110 million.
1 Tampa International Airport, Florida (TPA)
$40 million
The largest single payout from the recent infrastructure grants went to Tampa International in Florida. Originally known as Drew Field until the 1950s, this airport has grown over the years from a small airfield to an intercontinental three-runway facility with direct connections to destinations as far afield as mainland Europe. These include Delta to Amsterdam and BA and Virgin Atlantic to London.
