Patrick Mahomes Drops in All-Time QB Rank After Disastrous Year

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was on a trajectory that was rivaled by only one other NFL QB all-time: seven-time Super Bowl champion and three-time NFL MVP Tom Brady. However, according to the latest all-time quarterback ranking news, the 2025 season has hurt Mahomes’ post-career standing.
On February 17, Bleacher Report released a list ranking the top 99 quarterbacks of all time, and Mahomes was not No. 2 behind Brady. In fact, he was not even No. 3.
Mahomes fell to No. 4 on Bleacher Report’s new all-time QB rank behind Brady, Joe Montana, and Peyton Manning. This was based on an aggregate ranking from the B/R staff, and the NFL site also noted that Mahomes’ highest ranking by any single employee was No. 3 overall.
Meaning, not a single voter placed the Chiefs superstar second on the list. Current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and impending free agent Aaron Rodgers ranked fifth, just behind Mahomes.
Bleacher Report Explains Patrick Mahomes’ All-Time Quarterback Ranking News
With a strong season and another Super Bowl appearance in 2026-27, Mahomes could skyrocket right back up to No. 2, with a chance at the “greatest of all-time” status that Brady has earned. But for now, Bleacher Report explained his current placement at No. 4.
“You can write a book about Patrick Mahomes’ career highlights and his role in the Kansas City Chiefs’ dominance from 2018 to 2024, though here’s why he’s already one of the greatest to play the game,” they began.
Continuing: “By age 30, Mahomes won two league MVPs, claimed three Super Bowl MVPs, led the NFL in passing touchdowns and QBR twice and passing yards once. He’s thrown for 30,000 yards and 250 touchdowns faster than any player in history.
“In terms of postseason production, Mahomes is sixth in passing yards (5,814) and second in passing touchdowns (46) with a 67.7 percent completion rate, which is better than any signal-caller with more than six playoff starts. You get the picture.”
Finally, Bleacher Report concluded that “Mahomes has earned acclaim for his individual accolades, the pace at which he’s achieved them, and his contributions to the Chiefs’ attempt at a historic three-peat.”
Having said all that, it appears Mahomes still has much to prove if he wants to climb up to Brady’s plateau.
Is Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ All-Time Ranking Fair?
Mahomes’ torrid pace early in his career put him on par with Brady, in terms of what he could accomplish. But that was only half the story.
Brady’s longevity as a winner accounts for the other half, and Mahomes must still prove that the back nine of his career will measure up to the start.
Manning is a five-time NFL MVP and seven-time All-Pro, which trumps Mahomes’ personal accolades, even if the Chiefs QB already has more Super Bowl rings.
Montana has more Super Bowl titles (four) and All-Pros (three), despite having the same number of NFL MVPs.
Then there’s Mahomes, who currently sits at two NFL MVPs, three Lombardis and three Super Bowl MVPs, one OPOY, six Pro Bowls, and two All-Pros, not to mention a career win percentage of 75.4% and completion percentage of 66.2% (both of which are better than Manning and Montana).
Writers and analysts can penalize Mahomes for his recent setback in 2025, but assuming the Chiefs rebound, it won’t be long before their fearless leader surpasses Manning and Montana again.
If that happens, Brady’s legendary resume will be the only thing standing in between Mahomes and the title of “greatest quarterback of all-time.”
