The US Embassy in Moscow has recommended that all US citizens in Russia leave the country immediately, in response to the “partial mobilization” of reservists announced last week by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a notice released Tuesday evening, the embassy advised American citizens to organize their return to the United States “as soon as possible”, as long as there are flights available, given that at the moment the possibilities of booking a flight in the short term are ” extremely limited “and may soon be even more so.
In recent months, the embassy had strongly discouraged US citizens from traveling to Russia, advising those in the territory to leave immediately. In Tuesday’s note, he specified that the Russian government “may refuse” to recognize the status of people who have dual Russian and American citizenship, and therefore deny them assistance at consulates, prevent them from leaving the country or still force them to be recruited for military service. The embassy also noted that the Russian authorities “have arrested American citizens who had participated in the protests” and said that at the moment it has “big limits” in the possibilities of giving assistance to US citizens.
