The one we are about to put behind us was a decidedly inauspicious week from a purely meteorological point of view, which in fact closed that long “beautiful season” also characterized by a month of October and an early November in which temperatures were been decidedly above the average and in some cases even similar to the summer ones. Tomorrow, in fact, the schools of all levels located on the territory of the six island municipalities will remain closed again. The mayors of Ischia (Enzo Ferrandino), Lacco Ameno (Giacomo Pascale), Forio (Francesco Del Deo) and the extraordinary commissioner of Casamicciola Terme, Dr. Calcaterra, signed the ad hoc ordinances. No provision has been made by the first citizens of Barano and Serrara Fontana Dionigi Gaudioso and Irene Iacono: in fact, in the two Municipalities all the complexes are already closed on Saturdays (in the hilly Municipality asylum, elementary and middle schools, in the mountain one only asylum and elementary). The individual Municipalities then also adopted other measures such as the closure of cemeteries, sports fields (those of Barano, Forio and Casamicciola will remain off limits) and public parks.
In the early afternoon of yesterday, the weather alert from the Civil Protection had arrived, orange in color like the one that had characterized Tuesday which had caused so many inconveniences above all due to the strong wind that caused so much inconvenience and even damage (above all the collapse of the wall of via Giovanni Mazzella in Forio) had generated. Among other things, the bulletin states that from 9 pm last night until the same time today “a warning was in force throughout the region, regardless of the area, for strong winds with gusts and very rough seas along the exposed coasts. Scattered or widespread precipitation is expected, including downpours or thunderstorms, locally of strong intensity. Starting tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 26 November, strong north-eastern winds are also expected throughout the region, with local gusts. The sea will be rough or very rough. Thunderstorms, even of high intensity, will give rise to a hydrogeological risk, even widespread, with possible landslides, slope instability, rapid mudslides, falling rocks, flooding, overflows, raising of the hydrometric levels of watercourses with phenomena of flooding of neighboring areas, surface runoff of rainwater in the streets and involvement of depressed urban areas. The Civil Protection of the Campania Region calls the Mayors to the utmost attention. We remind you to activate the municipal operational centres, to implement all the rules established by the civil protection plans and to adopt the necessary risk mitigation measures and to secure the territory and protect citizens also in consideration of the rainfall of recent days and the soil saturation. The competent authorities are also invited to check the correct maintenance of the public green areas, as well as of the structures exposed to the stresses of the winds and waves”. For the record, the mayor of Procida Dino Ambrosino has also decided to close the schools located on the island of Arturo.
