U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said there needed to be the chance of a “concrete result” regarding ending the war in Ukraine in for any meeting to take place between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin.
Rubio made the comments to reporters after the Group of Seven foreign ministers meeting in Ontario, Canada, following speculation about another meeting between the American and Russian leaders.

Why It Matters
Trump had teased a follow-up to his summit with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska on August 15, which yielded no breakthrough in the war in Ukraine but canceled the proposed meeting in Budapest, Hungary.
As Russia continues its drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, Rubio’s comments suggest no further meeting was likely unless there was a strong chance of success that it could end the war raging over three-and-a-half years.
