US Seeks to Make Kurdish Oil Exports Long-Lasting After Key Deal

The Trump administration is working to ensure oil exports from northern Iraq, which resumed after a two-year halt, keep flowing in the long term to bolster the nation’s economy, benefit US companies and counter Iran’s influence in the region.
The US is focused on making sure the export pact is implemented and financial terms are honored, according to a senior State Department official, who asked not to be named discussing private talks. The US worked in recent weeks to bring together international oil companies with the Iraqi and Kurdish government in an effort that included hundreds of phone calls and meetings to put the deal together, the official said.
