Australia to Manage Engagement With US and China, Treasurer Says

Australia is capable of engaging with the Trump administration while stabilizing relations with China, Treasurer Jim Chalmers said, reiterating the center-left government’s policy of balancing the fractious superpowers.
Chalmers spoke to Bloomberg Television on Tuesday after Australia and the US signed a landmark deal to boost America’s access to rare earths and other critical minerals in an effort to counter China’s grip on supply chains. Nonetheless, relations with Beijing remain important for Australia, the treasurer said from the APEC finance ministers meeting in Incheon, South Korea.
