After Tuesday night’s shocking development that saw the Baltimore Ravens renege on their previously-agreed deal to trade two first round draft picks – including the 14th overall pick in 2026 NFL Draft – to the Las Vegas Raiders for for All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby, the Chicago Bears suddenly were thrown back into the mix for his trade sweepstakes.
What’s more after the Ravens went back on their word, per the team, based on a failed physical, the trade price for Crosby will be lower than it was prior. The Ravens, and now the Dallas Cowboys are both out of the race for his services, and no doubt other franchises will have renewed doubt about adding the five-time Pro Bowler.
Amidst this optimism from fans – and perhaps even the organization; according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the “plan” is for Crosby to remain with the Raiders in 2026.
Raiders ‘Plan’ to Keep Maxx Crosby Through 2026
“For now the plan is for Maxx Crosby to be a Raider for the upcoming 2026 season”, Russini posted on X, quoting a clip of her interview on the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday.
Russini went into further detail about Crosby’s potential future over the course of the next 12 months.
“Maxx is back at the facility today, he’s under contract with the Raiders.” Russini says to Patrick in the clip. “He’s doing what he does all the time, which is work out and try to get that knee ready to go. And I think there’s a good chance that Maxx Crosby is a Raider for 2027.”
Could the Bears Still Get a Trade Done For Crosby?
The Raiders are in a tough predicament, having bought in multiple players in during the legal tampering period ahead of free agency under the impression that Crosby would no longer be with the team.
According to Russini, the team are sticking to their original asking price of two first round draft picks, something that given the diminished interest and now more concerning (potentially) view of his injury suffered at the end of last season, could be difficult to acquire.
If the Bears offered compensation amounting to something similar to what the Ravens originally gave up prior to backing out, which in Chicago’s case would be the 25th and 57th pick in 2026, along with their first rounder in 2027, it would be very surprising to see general manager John Spytek and co. not almost immediately accept.
But it would appear that teams are not coming in hot to offer that kind of draft capital. Thus it makes sense why the Raiders are reportedly happy to keep Crosby on roster: they may actually be willing to keep their All-Pro star, or it could also be a ruse to not push his price down even further by seeming desperate to move him.
Either way, unless Las Vegas has their bluff seriously called or has a serious change of heart, the Bears will have to make a legitimate offer to land Maxx Crosby.
