NBA superstar Stephen Curry has been out for more than two months with a knee injury for the Golden State Warriors, and while the team is set to play the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, he remains out for the game.
However, according to multiple recent reports, a Curry injury return is coming soon. However, it will not come against the Spurs on Wednesday night
The Warriors have gone 9-16 without Curry as he’s been sidelined with what the team described as ‘runner’s knee,’ an injury that has held him out for one of the longest periods of his career.
Is Steph Curry Playing Tonight?
Curry is not playing in the Warriors vs. Spurs game on ESPN on Wednesday night.
He has been out since January 30th with a knee injury, and remains sidelined for the time being.
Golden State has struggled without its star player, but based on the latest Curry injury update, he could be coming back soon.
Steph Curry Injury Update And New Return Date
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Curry is eyeing a return date of Sunday, April 5, in the Warriors’ game against the Houston Rockets.
“Reporting for NBA Today — Stephen Curry has set a goal to return for the Golden State Warriors on Sunday against the Houston Rockets, with the next few days as a vital period to receive clearance,” he wrote in a post on X.
The new return date comes after Curry practiced with the team on Tuesday, after receiving the ‘medical green light’ by the medical staff to join his teammates, according to Anthony Slater.
“It felt great,” Curry told ESPN after the scrimmage. “I’m checking the boxes. But with this, it’s always unpredictable because I don’t know how the knee will respond because it hasn’t responded well in the past attempts to get to this five-on-five level. I’m right where I need to be for right now and I’m hoping that it continues until the weekend.”
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, like Charania, added that the next few days will be a major deciding factor if Curry can return for that targeted Sunday game against the Rockets.
The Curry injury saga has been a long one for the Warriors, but if he does return on Sunday, it will be great news for his team that could desperately use him back at a crucial point in the season.
Despite not playing in two months, Curry remains the top priority for Golden State. In just 39 games this season, Curry is averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 46.8% shooting from the field and 39.1% from three-point range.
Warriors Injury Report Vs Spurs
While the latest injury update is good news for the Warriors, that still doesn’t mean Curry is playing in their game against San Antonio.
For now, the Bay Area franchise has a loaded injury report. Before the game, the Warriors confirmed the injuries and the players who will be out.
That group includes Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Moses Moody, Kristaps Porzingis, Quinten Post, Gui Santos, Gary Payton, and of course, Curry.
Golden State is 2-1 against the Spurs this season, coming after they won two games in a row when the franchises played back-to-back matches in November, but ended up losing to the Victor Wembanyama-led squad back in February.
The Warriors are 36-39 and tenth in the Western Conference standings. They are bound for the Play-in Tournament.
However, the latest Curry injury update is great news for the team, and if everything goes according to plan, he’ll be back on the court very soon.
