Iran’s capital Tehran has been coming under intense bombardment Friday morning, with explosions heard across the city, state media reported.
Jomhuri Avenue, a popular shopping strip and one of the busiest streets in the center of Tehran, has been targeted, according to the reports.
“Jomhuri Street and the Jami BRT station, a house in a residential area, have been completely destroyed,” Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported Friday.
“The streets around the central and eastern areas of Tehran are now deserted.”
It comes as the Israeli military said Friday it has begun a “broad-scale wave of strikes” on key regime infrastructure in Tehran.
CNN staff on the ground heard waves of sustained jet noise in the sky near Tehran, with Iranian media also reporting loud explosions and sounds from jets heard across the capital.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam Al Anibya, Iran’s military command, said on Friday that the country’s “attacks against enemy positions will be more severe and more comprehensive” in the coming days.
Nearly a week into the war, the US and Israel are still trading strikes with Iran, as Gulf nations defend against Iranian attacks – which have decreased in the past day according to the US.
Here’s what we’re seeing in each country:
Iran: Israel said it had begun a “broad-scale wave of strikes” on key regime infrastructure in Tehran. CNN staff on the ground heard two waves of sustained jet noise in the sky near Tehran, with Iranian media also reporting loud explosions and sounds from jets heard across the capital. State media said Jomhuri Avenue, a popular shopping strip in Tehran, was targetted.
Israel: Overnight, Iran said it launched a hybrid drone and missile attack against Israel. CNN staff in Tel Aviv saw what appeared to be a cluster warhead in the skies above central Israel, and heard explosions in the distance. Lebanon’s militant group Hezbollah also warned Israeli residents to evacuate towns within 5 kilometers of the border between the two countries.
Lebanon: Explosions began rocking southern Beirut after nightfall and have continued into the pre-dawn hours. An Israeli military warning to evacuate nearly all of southern Beirut triggered scenes of chaos and panic Thursday as residents jammed roads trying to flee the area.

Saudi Arabia: Three ballistic missiles targeting Prince Sultan Air Base were intercepted and destroyed, the kingdom’s Ministry of Defense announced.
Bahrain: The country’s Interior Ministry said that a hotel and two residential buildings in the capital Manama were hit, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
Qatar: Air defenses “successfully intercepted” a drone attack targeting the Al-Udeid Air Base a short while ago, the Qatari Ministry of Defense said. The base is the largest US military installation in the Middle East.
Kuwait: Air defenses were working to intercept “hostile missile and drone attacks” that breached the country’s airspace, the Kuwait army said. A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defense said falling debris from an earlier interception had damaged a vehicle but no injuries were reported.
An Israeli military warning to evacuate nearly all of southern Beirut triggered scenes of chaos and panic Thursday evening as tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of residents jammed roads trying to flee the area.
“I saw people running out of their buildings barefoot,” a flower-shop owner named Hussein told CNN.
Family chat groups filled with desperate calls for relatives to run. But escape was hindered by grid-locked traffic and the challenge of evacuating the elderly and immobilized.

Beirut’s southern suburbs are still badly scarred from Israel’s relentless bombardment during a 66-day war in 2024 against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah.
But Thursday’s evacuation order for entire neighborhoods believed to house more than half a million people raised fears to a new level. In the past, Israeli military warnings tended to focus on a single building prior to an airstrike.
The terror was exacerbated by a video statement from Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Thursday.
“We’re here along the northern border, after the IDF issued an evacuation order to all the residents of Dahieh (Beirut’s southern suburbs),” Smotrich said, standing in front of a fence. “You wanted to bring hell on us, and brought hell upon yourselves. The Dahieh will look like Khan Younis.”
Khan Younis is the city in southern Gaza that was largely flattened during Israel’s war against Hamas. Israeli military officials acknowledged that about 70,000 Palestinians were killed in the war.
“Israelis seek to recreate the Gaza example in the (southern) suburbs,” wrote Michael Young, senior editor at the Carnegie Middle East Center.
