Why The US’ 2nd Busiest Single Runway Airport Hasn’t Been Able To Change The Narrative

According to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), a parallel runway has been a concept since the late 1970s, when the airport was being developed. The airport was recently planning to construct a parallel runway and have it operational by 2020. However, the second runway plan has been pushed back until the early 2040s.
Southwest Florida International Airport is the second busiest single-runway airport in the United States. San Deigo International Airport (SAN) takes the number-one spot for the busiest single airport runway in the nation.
